These girls are looking on at their creation, these steel pans were purchased at a local dollar store and the heads for the drums are just simple punching balloons, you can use any type of plastic containers, oat meal boxes make great drums, even plastic containers from Christmas time that you put cookies in. The balloon for the head is important because it stretches and is responsive when struck. You may want to use a dowel with a ball end for a stick type striker. When the children make the drums it is incorporated into the lesson program about beat, timing, Quarter, Half, Whole notes.
The cost to run the program has been designed at about $ 1.25 per child each week in your class. The materials for the " Hands On" making of the musical instruments can be purchased at local Dollar Stores, and some items are in your home that normally you would toss out.
Store pictures used with permission of the respective owners. Dollar Tree,Family Dollar, Dollar Gerneral are all registered Trademarks.
Paints cost from .77 to $1.00 You don't have to offer a wide selection just the basic Rainbow type colors. Washers can be purchased by the box at your local hardware store. Some local companies will even donate them to you, it doesn't hurt to ask, after all it is for the children of their community.

A hot glue gun or guns can be used. I recommend that they are low heat, and when they are used in the class that a parent must be present and help their own child with the activity you are using it with.
